In order to boost the preparations of the Latvian men’s national basketball team for the decisive phase of the FIBA World Cup qualifications, the Latvian Basketball Association today, on September 6, signed a cooperation agreement with Putnu Fabrika Ķekava.
Valdis Voins, President of the Latvian Baskatball Association, and Andrius Pranckevičius, Chairman of the Board of Putnu Fabrika Ķekava signed the official cooperation agreement today, right after the national team’s first training together with the team’s leaders Jānis Timma and Jānis Strēlnieks who have just joined the national team ahead of the upcoming September 7 match at the Arēna Riga.
“The national basketball team has started cooperation with Putnu Fabrika Ķekava at a time important for Latvia’s basketball – just before the decisive World Cup qualification games. Our goal is to qualify for the World Cup by working together and to open a new chapter for Latvia’s basketball. The good results shown by Latvian teams in international competitions and the successful careers of our players have proven the effectiveness of the Latvian Basketball Association’s long-term strategy. One of the association’s main tasks is to ensure good conditions for our talents’ growth, starting from youth basketball to national teams. In the situation where the state can only provide part of the resources necessary for the Latvian national teams, long-term cooperation with sponsors who appreciate the basketballers’ great potential and are willing to participate in the growth process is vital for systematic and consistent development,” says Valdis Voins, President of the Latvian Basketball Association.
“It is no secret that a healthy diet and sports go hand in hand. And protein-rich chicken meat is a true energy source for athletic achievement. Putnu Fabrika Ķekava has therefore been engaging in nation-wide sports events for several years already, supporting Latvia’s young athletic talents and participating in sports event programs aimed at raising awareness of active and healthy lifestyles in kids and young adults. Sponsoring professional basketball is a new step for us, intended to support our players in their striving for international success, especially in such a crucial phase. We hope that the cooperation will be a good support for our basketballers and that it will help them get closer to their goal. We are for “winged victories”!” says Andrius Pranckevičius, Chairman of the Board of Putnu Fabrika Ķekava.
After the ceremony in which the agreement was signed, players of the national basketball team spent the afternoon grilling meat in what was a short break before tomorrow’s game. Already tomorrow, the national team will play the first home game at the Arēna Riga.Back
